How I Ended Up In Maui
Prior to moving to Maui, I'd lived in Sisters, Oregon, for 14 years. In 1994, my husband and I moved there to start a business of our own - The Candle House, Inc. I enjoyed it thoroughly - doing something you love with someone you love is a blessing. However, during this time I was also caring for ill parents and several critical physical issues with my husband. Within 4 years time, I lost my Mother, my Husband and then my Father. I ran the business for 3 years alone and I was never able to recapture the joy. So in the fall of 2007 I sold the store and was wondering where to go because I'd come to the realization that I needed to start over elsewhere.
In March, 2008, I came to Maui with girlfriends for vacation. While here, they walked around remarking how beautiful it was but said they couldn't live here. I looked around and thought "I could live here". On my last day here, I saw a note on the bulletin board of the condos where we were staying. When I got home I called and was able to rent a furnished condo for 6 mos. That was it! I put everything into storage and told my daughter to sell anything she didn't want. I packed my summer clothes and books and three weeks later I was here.
It felt like home from the beginning. I came here knowing no one. Literally starting over. With Susan, Mary, Elise and Fran moving here I suddenly had sisters, friends, family. It's truly paradise and it's home.
